Folksong: Waltzing Mathilda

The unofficial Australian national anthem...

Including fun new vocabulary like, swagman, billabong and coolibah tree...

A whole new definition of waltzing, that doesn't mean dancing...

and a Mathilda that ISN'T a girl?!

Are you curious?

Check out this term's folksong: Waltzing Mathilda!
Listen to it as you read along HERE (includes Australian and American lyrics).

Oh. my. Listen/watch this video...
does he not have the nicest speaking voice you've EVER heard?!
oh. second only to my husband's of course. :)

We saw this in one of the ambleside groups and I´ve just been listening to it and learning the words myself, and my girls sound so cute singing it, they are learning it a bit.
It´s so much fun...we have family in Australia.
Hugs, miss Amy

Gidday mate! Howyagoin'? Did you know that the only place I have ever seen Matilda spelled that way in on the AO website? We never ever spell it with an H! Fun that you're studying it though!!

my girls love this song. it's one of our old disney tunes tapes that has lots of older & fun songs on it. I don't have time to watch the video (except to find out what the man's voice sounds like HA! so funny, i love that accent) looking forward to hearing what its all about.

My boys learned the books of the Old Testament to that tune!

I do love the Rolf Harris traditional version, but my favourite tune for Waltzing Matilda is what we call the Queensland version, sung here by The Seekers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTBJLUuEJpM
